PROFESSIONAL TRAINING IN PHYSICAL EDUCATION AT THE UNIVERSITY.-In addition to the program of physical education for the general student body of the University, there should be offered in the College of Education professional training courses leading to the bachelor of science degree. These courses should be offered as there is a demand for special teachers in the high schools of physical education and supervision of health and physical education in the system. It is hoped that such demand will arise within a few years to warrant an offering something like the following: FIRST YEAR General college course directed toward the sciences, especially biology. SECOND YEAR General college course directed toward the sciences, especially psychology, anatomy, and physiology. THIRD YEAR AND FOURTH YEAR Courses of the type given for the normal school more detailed and providing more practice. At least 3 hours a week for one-half year to be devoted to practice teaching. The course for supervisors should provide in the third and fourth years less practice and more theory particularly in (a) the organization and administration of physical education, (b) tests and measurement of results, (c) management of school meets, (d) educational hygiene, (e) personal hygiene applied, and (f) health examinations. It would be desirable for the University to admit for the supervisors course graduates of the School of Nursing who had had experience in the schools. HEALTH EDUCATION IN THE NORMAL SCHOOLS.-Teachers of health education are to be trained in the normal schools in a manner similar to the training for physical education. The students will be regular classroom teachers. Five hours a week for one semester should be given to health education. This course should have the following content: (a) Forty (40) hours would be given to health supervision covering morning inspection and physical examination of skin, eyes (condition 211488 32
