TEACHER TRAINING 435 THIRD YEAR First semester Second semester 5-English-a skill course. 5-English-a skill course. 5-Biology, preparing definitely for work 5-Educational psychology. in physiology and hygiene. 5-Physiology, hygiene, and sanitation. 5-School management, including study of Materials and methods. grading, sectioning, promotion, use of 5-Particpation and practice teaching. simpler tests, reports. 3-Gardening or domestic science. 5-Observation and participation. 2-Physical education. 3-Industrial work-methods or domestic art. 2-Physical education. FOURTH YEAR One semester Half-day apprentice teaching with ten days of full-day teaching. Conferences. Directed professional reading. Required reading of selected literature. The other semester 5-Principles of education, with some historical study of the development of school practices and comparison of practices in outstanding countries. 5-English-a skill course. 5-Social science-general geography, current events, and historical background of contemporary happenings. 5-Industrial education-a study of the part to be played in elementary schools by industrial education, illustrated by participation in processes, methods, and use. Adaptation of industrial work to community needs and to pupil capacity., 3-Health supervision. 2-Physical education. A curriculum is composed of courses, and presupposes certain content for those courses. A curriculum might conceivably list courses whose names indicated one content and the courses might in practice be entirely different. In the above curriculum, an attempt has been made to give some indication of the general nature of the desired content. The only guarantee that the content will be of the sort contemplated will be to employ as teachers in the schools persons whose character, native ability, training, and experience fit them for the assigned work. The labor of finding them and the expense of securing them will not be inconsiderable. But if efficient teacher training is to be put into effect, labor and the expense cannot be spared. CONTENT OF PARTICULAR COURSES.-The content of some of the courses included in the curriculum is outlined in detail in other sections of this report. In the section on physical and health education will be found indicated materials to be included in the physical education which runs throughout the four years of the curriculum and the content
