He must, for his own sake, and for the sake of pupils entrusted to his care, be introduced to practice only by gradual and carefully planned and closely supervised stages. Practice must be continued long enough to establish thoroughly proper teaching habits. The school for observation and practice must be located at a distance no greater than can be walked in the number of minutes allowed between classes in the normal school. Only in this way can students without disturbing the schedule
