3388 EDUCATIONAL SURVEY OF THE PHILIPPINES In Table 38 are presented the facts regarding the growth of the public high school since its establishment in 1902. In order to make the general trend more obvious, these facts are presented in graphical form in Figure 21. From this graph, it is apparent that the very rapid expansion of the secondary school did not begin until after 1920. Since that date, in the course of four years, the number of pupils en Fig. 21 rolled has almost trebled. Moreover, if the period from 1918 to 1920 be excepted, a period which reflects the unnatural post-war conditions, the curve reveals a rate of growth of positive acceleration. In general, since the founding of the high school the enrollment has increased more and more rapidly from year to year.
