ELEMENTARY EDUCATION 293 years of her life, in all of the practices in which she will engage as a home maker after leaving school. Already she is a home helper, and she is participating in these activities to some extent. The school work should relate closely to her background of home experience and supplement it in every way possible. Home projects should find a large place in the work. The course should include studies in home making relating to such fields as the following: in clothing-its materials, designs, construction, purchases, cleanliness, healthfulness, adaptability to occasions, care and repair, and the development of such skills in making and caring for clothing as the home maker should practice; in foods-a similar study of materials, values, and health problems and the development of skill in cooking and serving; in the house-its planning, furnishing, and keeping, for health, economy, convenience, and comfort; and in the care of children, home management,'and the social life of the home and community. For girls, the work should include units in clothing, household furnishing and textiles, food studies and cooking, household management, care of children, home sanitation, home decoration, and the social life of the home and community.
