For tests 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 8, and 9, therefore, direct comparisons can be made between Filipino and American achievements. Finally, the modified tests were carefully revised by the Filipino research associates of the Commission. Not until they certified that, according to their judgment, the contents of the tests fitted Philippine conditions were the tests sent to the printer. It appears certain that the tests are as satisfactorily within the experiences of Filipino children as the original forms are within the abilities of Americans. In conclusion, therefore, the Commission is confident of the complete validity of the giving of the tests. How the Tests Were Scored and Statistical Results Were Worked Up To score the tests necessitated the correction of more than 6,000,000 answers. These items had to be totalled, and recorded on the individual and class record sheets. They had to be grouped by grades, municipalities, and provinces. The range of scores, average scores, and measures of the dispersion scores were computed. The statistical manipulations necessary in this division of the work of the survey totalled more than 13,000,000. This huge clerical task was accomplished through the use of thirty-five trained seniors and juniors in educational measurement in the University of the Philippines. To these clerk-scorers is due the appreciation of the Commission for their hearty cooperation. They worked with great industry and accuracy. Through careful checking their work was found to contain only negligible errors. In addition the part-time services were secured of several scores of normal school students (pensionados). The final judgment of the members of the Commission, therefore, is that the tests are valid measures of the academic work of the schools. Both the giving and the scoring of the tests was done accurately and honestly.
