EARLY HISTORY OF THE REGIMENT 11 five batteries of field artillery in the national guard, Battery F ranked sixth in point of efficiency. A remarkable tribute to the regiment appeared in the Minneapolis Journal on February 21, 1917, at the time of the return from the border: The First regiment of field artillery has been a credit to the state. It brings home the Parker trophy for the best shooting battery; its camp was pronounced by the senior surgeon the best in the department, and General McNair, senior artillery officer in the department, declared that the regiment was a " credit to the service. " 7 7Battery A won the trophy mentioned.
