ToM, You C~ JG'V~ TJ.l~ R p~~ AL ~AlL~ I~ 'tbU~ LR~~DY ll.L(;ltD ~R p~~ AL 'L~. Petoskey appreciates good life and friend's 4-The Sentinel, Wednesday, May 13, 2015 Co ments Over the past few months I have been deal~ ing with my own mortality. I have undergone multiple surgeries since October, 2014, and am disabled enough so that I am housebound most of the time. I will be 70 years of age in a few days. I don't know if others do this, but I have been doing my own inventory and remi~ niscing about events in my life. I shared with Barry a few days ago that in reminiscing and one's thoughts return to specific things one should pay attention. My thoughts continuous~ ly returned to recall moments, people and events that took place during our life living in UAnse and Baraga areas. In my reminiscing a lot of names came to mind, many of whom have left this world, such as Eddie Nevela, Emil Karschney and Katherine Liimatainen. I thought about all the men I sat and drank coffee with early in the morning at the Night Owl, the jokes and sto~ ries I heard. I thought about the guys I fished With in Keweenaw and Huron Bay searching for whitefish. Emil let me walk through his property to Pine Point in the spring and even though the fishing was great the peace and quietness was even greater. Deer hunting and fishing with Don Lehman. I got to be an employee of The IJAnse Sentinel driving down to Eagle River, WI and picking up the papers early in the morning and delivering bundles of papers throughout the area. Each trip was a blessing to me and the great number of people delivering the paper introduced me to. I recall my employment in 1978 with the Keweenaw Bay Tribe and how my fellow employees "schooled" me. I was fortunate to work for the Tribal Education Department and New Day where my "education" contin~ ued. I was asked to be a part of the planning committee for the pow-wow in 1978 when the U.S. Congress returned our religious rights to us and the feelings of gratefulness that swept over me in that first Grand Entry. Looking back there are things I wish I had done differently or could do over. I apologize to anyone I may have injured. I am inspired to write this and send it this morning to express my love and appreciation for all of you. You touched my life in ways you may not even real~ ize. I am a better man for knowing you and learning from you. You taught me about humaneness and the importance of enjoying the moment. You helped me focus on what has become my life's vocation and we feel fortu~ nate to be involved in something so meaning~ ful. If you type my name (Warren Petoskey) into your computer search engine some refer~ ences should appear. I want to thank everyone for making my life fuller, more meaningful and complete. We miss you all. We look forward to coming to the Keweenaw Bay Pow-wow each year (we have only missed three since 1978) and camping. If you happen to fie passing thrOligh the camp~ ground stop at our campsite and have some coffee, so we can visit. Thank you all for help~ ing us down life's path. --Warren "Don" and Barbara Petoskey Charlevoix, MI
