Title
Little London
Artist
James McNeill Whistler
Physical Description
A sweeping panorama of a city is visible from an elevated vantage point. Bridges cross a river and boats are evident. The river occupies the right side of the composition and the curving near bank of the river dominates the left side of the work. The cityscape includes many buildings, culimnating in one large dome in the distance. There is evidence that a window ledge exists along the bottom of the image and in the distance there are blustery clouds, indicating a leaden wintery sky.

Lord Charles Spencer (1740-1820), Second son of the Third Duke of Marlborough
Artist
Joshua Reynolds
Physical Description
A young man leans against a stone ledge and gazes to his right. He wears a slate blue jacket with a white collar and cuffs and has a matching mantle. He casually hooks a finger of his left hand in the hilt of a sword that hangs at his waist. A plain stone column immediately behind the sitter creates a near silhouette of the shadowed side of his face. A hazy sky fills the background.

Title
The Edwards Family on a Terrace
Artist
Charles Philips
Physical Description
Six figures appear in a formal garden landscape. On the right a pair of men in powdered wigs stand behind two women, one seated in a wheelchair, before an elaborate portico. A pair of boys, also sporting wigs, stand on the left, partly screened by a fountain. One of the boys holds a shell and the other carries a parrot. A small pool extends through the middle ground behind the figures and draws attention to the setting and the distant obelisk visible above the trees.

Untitled (Dollhouse); from the 2002 Peter Norton Family Christmas Project
Artist
Yinka Shonibare
Physical Description
Dollhouse replica of a two-storey Victorian-style flat in the East End of London. The façade is red brick with white molding. The upper storey has two tall windows that face onto the street; the door into the flat is on the left, and to the right of it is a large bay window. The split-level interior holds a bedroom and parlor, both of which are decorated with wallpaper and furnishings, including cabinets, chairs, tables, fireplaces, and a canopy bed. Reproductions of paintings by Shonibare and Jean-Honoré Fragonard hang on the walls. A seal on the right-facing outside wall reads: “Yinka Shonibare, artist, lives here.”
