Light mauve silk with appliqued Saga brocade patches of gold fans with calligraphic poetry on them. The calligraphy has been brushed on paper with gold flecks (sunago). which is the weft of the Saga brocade; brown silk thread is the warp. Partially backed with a different silk, a taupe with deliberately knotted weft; reamainder backed with plain-weave taupe silk.

A large storage jar with round shoulder and shorter neck. The body is rather unevenly potted, showing bumps in some parts. The surface texture is uneven with speckles of white particles. Dark green, natural ash glaze drips on one side of the jar from top of the neck to the lower middle of the body. The rim of the neck is partially chipped and cracked. It has no foot.

Summer crested kimono with orchid design on purple crackled ground (hibiware)

Physical Description
It is a grayish purple silk crepe kimono with wax-resist patterns, hand-painted design and metallic threads embroidery. The kimono is in full length and has elongated sleeves. The fabric is dyed with purple, leaving the family crest under the collar and the floral design part white. The dark purple scale pattern is added using wax-resist technique. Then the design of multiple kinds of plants is hand-painted with white, red, yellow, pale and blue green, and black colors. The half bottom of the family crest is also dyed with pink. There are mix of tropical flowers and foliage including four kinds of orchids, gladiolus, ferns, and ginger in red, yellow, green, purple, black and white hue. Embroidery is added in various metallic threads around the contours of flowers and leaves.

A shabbily dressed figure holds out at arm’s length a small fish. He is completely focused on his catch, and his mouth almost seems to drool. The face, hands, and feet are sketched in a deliberately simplistic way, while the costume is drawn with only a few swift slashes of the brush, and the strokes bleed into each other.
