- Print depicting a can of Campbell’s condensed soup with “Green Pea” written in red capital letters across bottom half of can.
- Subject Matter
- Exploiting the mechanical sharp-edge precision of the screen-printing technique, Warhol faithfully reproduced seemingly banal images of various Campbell’s soup can labels, which were devoid of any trace of the artist’s hand or personal involvement in their production.
- He chose an instantly recognizable subject that had mass appeal and spoke to his love of the American consumer culture, producing numerous editions as a way of emphasizing his fondness for making art out of mass-produced objects but also mass-producing the art itself.
