FOR BISHOP PAUL OF TARSUS. Previously acknowledged,.... $1,321.40 Baltimore Cathedral Council, C. B. L., No. 338,.oo00 Hon. Peter H. Burnett, San Francisco,.. 15:45 Weedsport Council, C. B. L., No. 186,.. 1.50 Americas Council, C. B. L., No. 170,... 1.50 Holy Family Council, C. B. L., No. 9I,.. 8.oo Last November we transmitted to Bishop Paul $1,23.56, the amount we had in hand then, and we have received the subjoined letter of acknowledgment: ADANA, December 24, I893. MY DEAR REVEREND FATHER: Permit me by this to acknowledge the receipt of your letter of November'25, with its draft for ~230 6s. 5d. ($1,I23.56), which, through the medium of THE CATHOLIC WORLD, you have been the means of gathering and presenting to the Church of St. Paul, which we are about to build at Tarsus, in the country of the same Apostle of the Nations. I do not know how to thank you for this extraordinary favor. I have commenced to buy material, and have already taken the necessary steps to obtain the permission of the government to build this church. I shall pray every day in the holy Mass that your work may be blessed a hundredfold by Almighty God, that this-new year may be for you and the society of St. Paul a happy year, and that abundant blessings may attend all who were good enough to donate their offering to help along the work I am endeavoring to do for the good of the.poor souls confided to my care. My dear Father, I am happy-what a happy Christmas this has been for me! I have announced this generous donation to the poor converts, the fellow-countrymen of St. Paul, who, coming from the Eutychian schism to the true church during the last twenty-five years, have been content to hear Mass in a miserable hovel, poor, obscure, and entirely devoid of ornament; and who, seeing that there are in America devout souls interested in their behalf, are encouraged and filled with consolation. Thanks, a thousand thanks! We are very sure that St. Paul will, through his intercession, carry to completion the work he has begun here, and will obtaiR many blessings for our benefactors. Accept, then, the expression of my sentiments of deepest gratitude, while I have the honor to remain Yours devotedly in our Lord, + PAUL TERZIAN, Bishop of Adana and Tarsus. a
