No. 3.] CHARCOAL IRON WORKERS. 171 Pig-iron was produced in 1888 in twenty-four States (counting Washington as a State), charcoal was used as fuel in nineteen States, bituminous coal and coke in fifteen States anid anthracite coal alone, or mixed with coke, in three States. The following table will show the number of existing blast furnaces and the amounts of pig-iron produced with the various fuels in the several States in 1888: PRODUCTION OF PIG-IRON ACCORDING NET TONS. No mineral fuel iron was made in these States.
