These Retorts are now operated in connection with BlastFurnaces; and experience has demonstrated that an increase of 16 per cent. of blast pressure and 25 per cent. of burdemn is possible with coal made in these Retorts, over that made in kilns or meilers. The charcoal produced is clean and dry, and being disc.harged into cooling tanks the breakage is reduced to a minimum.
