The husband was engaged in writing accounts of his extensive travels, and the wife in the study of the French, English, German, Italian, and Spanish languages, all of which she spoke with ease and fluency, and in kind ministrations to the sick and suffering poor around them. The name of the husband was Maximilian, and of the wife, Carlotta: they were devotedly attached to each other. Prince Ferdinand Maximilian, Archduke of Austria, second son of the Archduke Francis Charles, and brother of Ferdinand I. of Austria, was a Rear-Admiral in the Austrian Navy; a man of graceful and tall figure; of genial, though never familiar, bearing; a good linguist, (Copyright, I898, by OVERLAND MONTHLY PUBLISHING CO.
