THE TATOOSH RANGE hopeless. After getting above timber line, we stopped at short intervals and shouted all together. When we had traveled about two miles an answering shout was heard. We hardly dared to believe that our search had been so easily successful, and after proceeding some distance farther, one of our number called out the name of the lost man. After a moment the answer came, an unmistakable, "Yes." A few minutes l ater the lost was found. He had given up th e ascent and on his way back to the camp had missed the t rail in the darkness and fog. He had then lain down in the most sheltered spot he could find on a rocky moraine, and had prepared to spend the night when he heard our shouts. We reached camp again soon after midnight, tired but heartily glad to spend the rest of the night under shelter. Although the weather next day was anything but favorable, few remained in 117 camp. Some spent the day in visiting the glaciers; others went botanizing; while a few made the ascent of Pinnacle peak, the highest in the Tatoosh range.
