The United States vs. Sutter. 759 HIRAM GRIMES vs. No. 181. THE UNITED STATES. 1022 In this case, after hearing the proofs and allegations, it is adjudged by the commission that the claim of the petitioner is valid, and it is therefore decreed that his application for a confirmation thereof be allowed. The land of which confirmation is hereby given is situated in the county of Sacramento, and known by the name of "Rancho de San Juan," and contains four and one-half square leagues, and bounded as follows, as set forth in the grant: on tbe west by the place of Senor Grimes, on the south by the American river. on the east by the foot of Sierra, and on the north by the vacant lands, being in extent from east to west three leagues, and from north to south one league and a half; reference being had to the grant herein. Mandeville, surveyor general of the United States for the State of California, and, as such, having in my office and in my charge and custody the papers of the late board of commissioners to ascertain and settle the private land claims in California, by virtue of the power vested in me by law, do hereby certify that the twelve preceding and hereunto annexed pages, numbered from one to twelve, inclusive, exhibit a true, full, and correct copy of three original documents, together with the endorsements thereon, as the same appear on file in case No. 181 on the docket of said board of commissioners.
