Q. 10. Do you not know that subsequent to the election there was
a good deal of complaint, that owing to the manner in which these
tickets were printed the subject did not attract the attention of those
opposed to the appropriation?
A. The complaint was not that they had been improperly printed,
but that the committee having the matter of the tickets in charge
had not used as much effort to cause a distribution of the tickets containing the vote against the appropriation as they had of the tickets
for it; which was without cause, for the reason that a large portion
of the tickets of both kinds were at the office, and ready for those
who wanted them.
Q. 11. Haven't you heard that some owners of the Sutter title
voted for the appropriation without noticing it on their ticket?
A. I have; Mr. Gillespie and others.
Q. 12. How many officers were voted for then?
A. About fifteen in all.
