Twenty-seven standing committees shall be ap. pointed at the commencement of each session, viz: A Committee of Elections, A Committee of Ways and Means, A Committee of Claims, A Committee on Commerce, A Committee on the Public Lands, A Committee on the Post Office and Post Roads, A Committee for the District of Columbia, A Committee on the Judiciary, A Committee on Revolutionary Claims, To A Committee on Public Expenditures, consist A Committee on Private Land Claims, of nine A Committee on Manufactures, bcrs A Committee on Agriculture, each. A Committee on Indian Affairs, A Committee on Military Affairs, A Committee on the Militia, A Committee on Naval Affairs, A Committee on Foreign Affairs, A Committee on the Territories, A Committee on Revolutionary Pensions, A Committee on Invalid Pensions, A Committee on Roads and Canals, A Committee on Patents, A Committee on Public Buildings and To Grounds, consist A Committee of Rcvisal and Unfinished ffi-e Business, bers A Committee of Accouits, each. A Committee on Mileage, tile 9th of April, 1814, a special allowance was made to the doorkeeper to meet the expenses of this office, and he was authorized to appoint a postmaster. The office continued on this footing till April 4, 1838, when an order was passed, as above, for the appointment of the post master by the Iouse itself. 7
