While the publishers of this volume, The Press Association Compilers,
Inc., believe that subscribers and purchasers are aware that it is not published by D. Appleton & Company, yet, since some prospective purchasers
may have gained the contrary impression, this notice is inserted in order that
the real facts may be generally.y;ter'gtood. In 1915, The Press Association Compilers, Inc., publishedli 'sitz.volume edition of a work entitled
"Cyclopedia of American Biogralhy, Appleton's Revised". In such edition,
the publishers had the permission of D. Appleton & Company to use the
material and plates appearing in "Appleton's Cyclopedia of American
Biography". D. Appleton & Company had no other connection with such
edition. This volume is intended as a further supplement to our 1915
edition, but D. Appleton & Company have no interest in or connection
with this work of any kind whatever. None of the copyrighted material
contained in "Appleton's C)clopedia of American Biography" appears in:- volume.
