Vndyr a tre besyde a welle I say
Cupide oure lord his arwis forge and file;
And at his fet his bowe al redy lay;
And wel his doughtyr temperede al the whyle
The hedis in the welle, and with hire wile 215

Some for to sle, and some to wounde and kerve.

Tho was I war of Plesaunce anon ryght,
And of Aray, and Lust, and Curteysie,

Here namys shul not here be told for me:
And vpon pileris grete of jasper longe, 230
