Had he stayed luckily with the snmall Body of Continentals he wotufd only have been b)lalned for not exerting
himself to rally the militia, a trifling Slar to what he nowv
meets with.
I am persuaded there is at good0 Body of Men together
by this time. I only fear:about nmagazinles & larms. We
have recommended Provisiomn to be mLade there for 15,000
as it is to be hoped that somethilg may be clone at the
southward if notlinq should be done inl this Quarter.
Indeed, nmy dear Sir, wvith a View of public affairs and
my own domestic, just at this period, I cannot cordially
proinounce "all for the best" tho' I have hadcl Experience
enlough to be fiar from Despondency. It was very unlucky that the moniey of our State should be seen in
Sodom till the Quota of Pennsylvania, had been offered
to the people of that execrable City.
And now, to our Family IMatters. Mr. Pickerin's
Employment destroys our plain of beiCng with his wife.
IIe had made some purchases for us, but we have so little
prospect of finLdiLI a place in which to ruse the Furniture
that I think we must dispose of it. It is small in Quantity and will even lmake a profit. He exlecte(l to be able
to furnish us with money but is disappointed, and I am
beat out from drlawhing on the State to the amount of
my Wants by only a Sight of the nominal Sum. I have
succeeded to Jerry Sheldlon but I charge nobody with
Quotas. Exchange is here 73 & 75, surely you are more
reformned at Danvers andI Boston.
