THE LIFE ADVENTURES AND ACHIEVEMENTS, OF THE CELEBRATED SIR WILLIAM WALLACE, GOVERNOR GENERAL OF SCOTLAND. SIR WILLIAM WALLACE was descended o an ancient and noble family. He was the son of Sit Malcom Wallace, of Ellerslie, whose progenitors were the ancient knights and baronets of Craigie. His mother was daughter of Sir Ronald Crawford, High Sheriff of Ayre. He was born in 1288, during the reign of William, surnamed the Lion, and the usurpation of Donald, Lord of the isles. In his childhood, he lived with his parents at Ellerslie, and fled with them from place to place during Edward's nine years' usurpation and oppression, in domineering over them, when their country was reduced to a mere province under the martial laws of foreign invaders. Sir William Wallace, even in his youth, before he arrived at the seventeenth year of his age, could not refrain from molesting the oppressors of his country.
