I WORL tNOWN V MICHIGTH LETESIv CRAIG James B. Craig, '14. An athlete who ranked with the best in two sports. As a football player on the Michigan Varsity he was picked by Walter Camp as All American half in I913. It was his return to the Michigan lineup that caused the great comeback after the disastrous M.A.C. game in I913. As a member of the track team he won the 220 yard hurdle race in 1912 at the Eastern Intercollegiate meet, and was one of the best performers on the squad at both hurdle races, and the 440 yard dash. E. F. Hughitt, '14. Varsity r i g h t half back in 1912, and quarterback the two years following. Also played two years as Varsity third baseman in I9I3 and I9I4. Captain and quarterback of the Buffalo Indian team that won professional football honors in 1920. Joe Homer, Jr., '11. One of the best of Michigan's track athletes. A certain winner in the shot and discus, which events he captured in both IgIO and I9II at the Eastern Intercollegiates, and'in which he placed in I909, his first season on the team. In 1911 he set a world's indoor I6 pound shot record of 48 feet 8 inches. To these feats he added the unique ability, usually denied a weight man, of being one of the best intercollegiate sprinters, hurdlers and vaulters of his day. E. D. Mitchell, '12. Played three years of baseball while in school, first baseman of the I9IO nine that won the national intercollegiate title and captain in 1912. He was also a member of the championship football squad in I9IO. Since graduation he has coached at Grand Rapids Union high school, directed athletics at Ypsilanti Normal, coached freshman football and baseball at Michigan. Mitchell was for two years Varsity basketball coach, and left that position to become head of the Intramural Athletic department in 1919. HUGHITT MITCHELL Three Hundred Fifty-eight HORNER
