We all rushed to him (Don Rafael, who had just returned,

first surprised at finding no blood; but when an examination revealed the fact that the entire charge had passed

anywhere, and that the only damage that had resulted from
the explosion was a bad scar, and a large rent in his flannel
blouse, our wonder and astonishment knew no bounds.

he would not believe himself unharmed for a long time;
nol would he then, until he had carefully examined all his
clothing for blood-stains, as well as made a close and extended examination of each particular bone in his body,
and satisfied himself that they were sound and unbroken.
