My friends all tried to dissuade me from the undertaking;
but a bale of smoking tobacco, a five-gallon keg of whisk-ey,
with a pair of bright red blankets, were too strong indexcements for Cochise, and his consent once gained, I detertiriecd
to start alone for the rancheria of the Pinal and Touto
Apaches, situated about one hundred and twenty miles west
of north from the Chiricahui Mountains, near the Rio Gila.
