This messenger happens to be the same man who had brought up the infant (Edipus, and had given hil lto Polybus. 926.-e7rov sC. Ec'rL referring to (dipus himself, inferred from aVrOv. 927. —cr-Eyagt $Lo/maTa of line 925. The omissions of the substantive verb will be here noticed. 92S.- -prurp c.-r.X. This is purposely introduced to briag vividly before the minds of the audience the fact of the incest, the speaker of course not being supposed to know aught of that. 930. —7avrEXr'j. There is likewise an ambiguity in this word. The messenger means "complete wife," as having borne children to (cldipus, but the audience will take the word in the sense of " lawful;" knowing she is not such lawful wife. 931.-o-v'. Supply k/3,los y Evoo. — a- co EL, Thouo art?ortihy (of bei2ng t hcppy). 935. —ravra, i. e., the aya3ta of the previous line. —-- rti'os. Supply O0'7ov.
