OFFICIAL PROCEEDINGS OF THE The Secretary then read the Declaration of Independence, which -as received with cheers. On motion the Convention then adjourned till Monday at ten o'clock, A. M. SECOND DAY. July 6, 1868. The Convention was called to order by Hon. H. L. PALMER, the temporary President, at 101 o'clock. The CHAIRMAN. -Gentlemen of the Convention, I have the pleasure of introducing to you Rev. WILLLIM QUINN, of New York, who will open our proceedings with prayer. Priayer. Rev. Mr. QUINN then offered the following prayer, 0, Almighty and Eternal God, Creator of heaven and earth, and of all things thlerein, who art intinite knowledge and infinite wisdom, and by whom just laws are administered, assist those in higa authority on earth, that wholesome laws may be enacted, and that they may be administered with clemency and mer(-y, restraining vice, encouraging the practice of good works. We pray Thee, also, Almighty God, thatonr brethren and fellow-citizens throughout the United States may be blessed in the knowledge and sanctified in the observance of Thy holy law; that they may be united together more and more in union and in the enjoyment of that peace which the world cannot give; and that, after enjoying the things of this life, they may become partakers of joys that are eternal. We pray Thee, also, O God, for those who are now here assembled in Convention from the different and most remote parts of our country, that their deliberations lmay be conducted in the spirit of lharinonii, of peace, of clharity, and may have reference chiefly to the public good and well-being of society,- to the peace, and happiness, and prosperity of ourt beloved land. We pray Thee, also, Almighty God, that these, Thy children, who are nownv assembled, whilst devoting their best faculties to these "great and exalted interests, may not be unmindful of Thy presence or of the higli responsibilities that they owe Thee. These, O Almighty God, and other precious gifts and lblessings, we pray thee to shower down upon us this day, and alw,vys through the merits of Thy beloved Son, our Lord and Saviour, Jesus Christ, who reigneth with Thee in the unity of the HIoly Ghiost, world without end. The Chairman announced the next business in order to be the reading of the journal of Saturday's proceedings. Air. TILDIFN, of New York. -To expedite the business of the Convention, I move that the reading of the journal be dispensed with. rThe motion prevailecl. Mr. RICIHARDSON, of Illinois. - I hold in my hand a communication from a distinguishled citizen of Illinois, which I desire to have referred to the Cominittee on Resolutions. It was so referred. MIr. G. W. 5MORGAN, of Ohio. - I move that the courtesies of this Convention be extended to the memnbers of the National Workingmen's Association, and that they be invited to accept seats on this floor.
