Mr. Lesquereux reports conglomerate seen at Flint Ridge, at the base
of the coal measures, with a thin seam of coal lying just above it. This
seam of coal has apparently the same stratigraphical position with the
one at Zanesville, under the limestone found in the bed of the Muskingum, since the strata above entirely correspond.
With the exception of the small deposits of conglomerate over the
Waverly or Logan sandstone, at Newark, there is little true coal measure
conglomerate in that part of the second geological district, extending
from the Hocking river, near Logan, to Newark. The conglomerate is
found chiefly in the Waverly group.
