To all such I would say, do nob content yourself in the less favored regions in the center of the continent, but press forward (if you are energetic) to that country-the Pacific coast-where the climate is the very air of labor; where the amazing natural resources, the wonderful richness and beauty of its soil and, climate, makes the greatest treasure (to those who know how and are willing to find it) we have in our own territory. I have mentioned before the South of California and the sunny and fertile region of Los Angelos and Santa Barbra. A combitiation. of circumstances point to this region as undoubtedly the ipost desirable part of the Pacific coast for the emigrant. I fully believe that a colonial emigration of Yankees to that portion of:the State could and would make this region one of the gardens of.the world. They would soon have their "cattle on a thousand hills," as once of Palestine, and the shepherds leading their flocks on the hills of Los Angelos, as once of Judea. Here they would have the best climate, amid oranges, lemons;- almonds, figs, olives, the rarest vines, and the largest enervating influence of climate that the Anglo Saxon has ever enjoyed The Jewish law describes no more favored land than this, into which the children of Israel were promised and led.
