102 THE LIFE OF had been a crowned head, saying, "I am pleased much more that I have fallen into your hands, than that I had gotten sixty score of florins." Wallace conluded, "that since you have by chance fallen into my hands, and since the king has sent for me, I will tell him that I want your peace and pardon for my reward." Loungeville sa d, " if you could obtain my pardon, I would most faithfully serve thee ail my days." But generous Wallace would take no advantage of his situation, and only desired mutual firiendship. Wallace proceeded to the king of France with Thomas of Loungeville, and obtained pardon for hinm and all his men, and the king even knighted him on the spot, and henceforth he went and fought with Wallace in all his succeeding wars in Guienne and in Scotland. WALLACE ARRIVES AT THE FRENCH COURT, AND CONQUERS GUIENNE. Philip, king of France, received Wallace most courteously, and honourably, and all his nobles vied with each other in marks of respect to the Scots hero.
