Authors
JEFFREY P. F HOWARD is the assistant director
for academic service-learning at the Edward Ginsberg
Center for Community Service and Learning at the
University of Michigan. He is the founding and current editor of the Michigan Journal of Community
Service Learning, and a member of both Campus
Compact's National Advisory Board and the National
Review Board for the Scholarship of Engagement. He
has been involved with service-learning teaching and
research for 23 years.
SHERRIL B. GELMON is Professor of Public
Health at Portland State University, and Engaged
Scholar on Assessment with Campus Compact. She is
a member of Campus Compact's National Advisory
Board, the Campus Compact-American Association
of Higher Education Service-Learning Consulting
Corps, and the National Review Board for the
Scholarship of Engagement. Her research addresses
educational assessment and improvement, with particular emphasis on the impact of community-based
learning and on health workforce policy.
DWIGHT E. GILES, JR. is Professor of the
Practice of Human and Organizational Development
and Director of Internships at Peabody College of
Vanderbilt University. He is a member of the Campus
Compact-American Association of Higher Education
Service-Learning Consulting Corps, and the National
Review Board for the Scholarship of Engagement.
His scholarship focuses on community development
and experiential learning. He has authored and coauthored numerous articles and monographs and two
books on service-learning research. Beginning in
January 2001, he will be a Senior Associate at the
New England Resource Center for Higher Education
and a Professor of Higher Education Administration
at the University of Massachusetts, Boston.
