that my health was restored. The uneasiness ex- -pressed in your anxious letter of the 2nd instant, may be allayed. For my health is further mended. Maria bids me tell you she has made no progress in conquering. How it is I know not. But this I know, that Washington is a very bad place for belles to vanquish beaux or gallants in. But be it with her as it may, this is certain that Catharine's Conquest over her Swain continues, and he is as much as subject to her Dominion as ever. My Mistress understands both the art of overcoming, but of securing her Conquests and rendering them permanent. How pleasant is this sort of subjugation! Oh Wife, let it never end.
