My dear Catharine

The inclosed letter from Surgeon
Davis at Tunis in Barbary is sent to you in lieu
of an original peice of my own. It will let you know
how the Mahometans of that Region live; and when you
contemplate their wretchedness, I doubt not that you
will by comparison love your own land and its institu-
-tions, the more. Read it to our Brother Samuel, for
it will be an instructive medical Lecture to him; show-
-ing the fallacy of the doctrine he will receive in the
books and schools of physick, that the plague is conta-
-gious. After you shall have made these uses of it, I
request you will give it to Dr. Miller, in a convenient
Time, as an Essay for the Medical Repository.

This is Assembly night, and altho I am [?] the
Sound of the Musick, I have concluded to stay at home,
and ruminate on my little Sweetheart in Rutgers
Street. Ever yours, my charming darling,
