31 Washington March 8. 1802 My dear Wife, I have written you so many letters which remain unanswered, that I do not know what I shall write you at much length. I am waiting for your & Margaret's reply to my approbation of your projected visit to this Place. The Judiciary Bill of repeal has passed at last, and one great subject of delay and detention is removed. We shall probably adjourn by the 1st of May, but this is at present wholly uncertain. You may in the mean time make your arrangements, and be ready to start upon a quick Summons, and I shall advise you when. Yesterday Morning I walked out to make some Visits. Mr. Clinton accompanied me. We called to see that remarkably accomplished New York Senator Mr. Governour Morris. Tho a representative of a Republic, he talked openly and zealously in favour of hereditary Monarchy and priviledged Orders, of Nobility, &c. Afterwards we make a short visit at the Secretary at War's, Genl. Dear- -born's. This Officer was, as Mrs. D. informed me yesterday, educated
