Sam[ue]l L. Mitchill ALS to [Catharine] Mitchill, December 2, 1801

Correspondence, 1801-1829 [Box 1, Folder 1]

1. Philadelphia Decr. 2. 1801- My dear Girl After travelling all night long thro the heavy and muddy roads of New Jersey, I arrived in this City about ten o' clock this morning. With the exception of a few halts and changes of Carriages, I passed the whole night, cold as it was in the stage. Yet I have not taken any indisposition. We laid by to rest and look about us untill tomorrow Morning, when at eight we are to depart for Baltimore, and expect to reach Havre de Grace at the Head of Chesepeake tomorrow evening. I am now at Francis's Tavern in Market Street, in the Di- -ning Room with a number of persons who are chatting on [a v]ariety of Subjects. Prince Rusponi is one, Dr Woodhouse has [jus?]t left me; and Genl. Smith is gone to bed. I have Supped [up]on partridge and turtle and am now at ten oClock a- -bout to retire to bed, to repair my last night's want of sleep. There I shall think of my charming little Kate and wish a thousand Times she was in my arms. Farewell & remember that I am faithfully & truly your loving Hus- -band, Saml L Mitchill To Mrs. Mitchill
