(a) To cut (sth.), trim; ppl. tailled, cut up, sliced; (b) to cut down (an enemy) in battle, cut to pieces, slaughter; also, slash and kill [last quot.]; (c) to set (persons) in order for battle; put (sth.) in order, arrange; shape (sth.); wel tailled, well formed or shaped.

(a) To record (a debt, a quantity of goods, etc.) by scoring a tally stick; tally (sth.); (b) to impose a tax on (a territory).
