It is 1run in firstclass style and is a popular resort for the best people of the place and( of those who are sojourning here for a short time. Miss Hattie was mnarried lAugust 8, 1889, to HIarry A. Bowie, a native of Portland, Mle. Ile came to Lansing a o()ung Iman and now has charge of tlhe -ludson in comrnpany with his wife and sister-in-law. The subjects of this sketch are both regular attendants of the Episcopal Church and if ladies could have politics theirs would be Republican. Prominent in agri\// cultural and churcllh circles is lie wllose VY\ 1ame we have just given, whose splendid farIn is to be found on section 7, in ()ceola, his native township. Here lie was born llNovember 6, 1849, and his fatther, Jacob X1. Eager, was a native of Orange County, N. Y., where lie had his early training and education. Thence lie came to Oceola Township, Livingston (County, in 1847, locating where his son William now lives. Here lie took up from the (overnment one hundred anld twenty acres of wild land and proceeded to clhol logs with which to build a home. After irnproving this place he removed to Millington and there engaged in the milling business, but after six years removed to Howell, where he now resides. ti-e is an earnest Republican in his political views and most wisely and judiciously has filled the otfice of Justice of the Peace for many years. He is an active and efficient memlber of tile Presbyterian Churcll 'and helped to build tlhe first church that was ever erected in H-Iowell. lThe grandfather of our subject also bore the name of W. B. Eager, and canme to Michigan from ()range ('011ounty, N. Y., during the same year in which his soll, Jacob, removed hither. -Ie also took tup land here although hle returlned to New York for a while, lint came 1)ack to this State and here spent the relnainder of his years, dying at a g(ood( old age. The maiden name of the grandlnother of ourt subject was AIoore, and his mnotller's maiden name was Emnily Cromfort, was also born in ()Orange County, N. Y., and is still remaining in life to be the comfort and inspiration of her children. Of her four sons and one daughter all are living, except one tlhat died in infancy. 'rhe original of this sketch was a'eared in his native homle and remained under the parental roof until lie reached the age of twenty-five years, when ihe was united in marriage, ()ctober 14, 1874, to Ltaura Walker, the wedding taking place at the home of the bride's father, 'Mr. Robert Walkelr, of whoIn our readers will be pleased to know more, and they will find a brief sketch of him on another page of this book. This lady is a native of Oceola l'ownship, and had her birtlh in 1855. The young couple remained with Mr. Eager's parents for onle year after marriage, and then built for themselves a holne on sectiol 8, Oceola T'ownsllip, and there carried oni general farning for eight years, after which they removed to the old homestead where thlley now reside. Four manly sons have been granted to this couple and to them they have given the following names: Lyman, Robert, James L. and Arthur 1P. ()Oe hundred and twenty acres of 1Mr. Eager's farm is situated on section 7, and one hlundred anld thirty-tlhree acres oi section 8, and all is under cultivation with the exception of sixty-five acres which remlain in timbler. For eleven years le hlas been oEperatinlg a threshing machine, and lie bought a new steaml thresher this fall. H-Ie keeps some very fine cattle and now has three head of thoroughbred Holsteins and keeps froml one hundred and twenty-five to one hundred and fifty sheep the:l
