John C. Ziegler, watchmaker and jeweler, Saginaw City, was
born in Wurtemberg, Germany, Nov. 15, 1830, and is a son of
Carl and Anna Ziegler. He learned his trade at the age of 14
years, working at it until 1853, when he came to America. He
first located at Detroit, Mich., working at his trade until 1858. He
came to East Saginaw in 1859, and was employed by Thomas
Doughty until 1861, when he enlisted in Co. A, 14th Reg. Mich.
Vol. Inf. and served until the close of the war in 1865. After the
close of the war he came to Saginaw City and opened business for
himself on Water street; was there five years, and on Court street
three years, when he moved to Hamilton street, in the Barnard &
Binder block. In December, 1861, he was married to Christina
Iink, a native of Germany. They have 6 children-Louie,
Emma, Augusta, Clara, Carl and Ella, all residing at home. Mr.
Ziegler is doing a prosperous business, and at his residence raises
and cultivates grapes for making large quantities of wine.
