HISTORY OF OAKLAND COUNTY 339 well as pupils. Not having been especially familiar with its condition immediately prior to that time I do not know if that was the beginning of the end. At all events, Colonel Rogers died the following September and Mrs. Rogers conducted the school for a year. I became president the next year (General Wheeler is a brother-in-law of Colonel Rogers), spent a small fortune in my endeavor to rehabilitate it, and retired in June, I906, all but ruined. It was continued a year under the hopeful control and scrutiny of its creditors and adjourned, sine die, in June, I907.
