There are nine children: John, *born Oct. 12, 1880; Annie, -born Sept. 2.2, 1882; Edmund, 'born March 3, 1.ý885; William, b~orn May 12, 1887; Mary, born March 20, 1889; Joseph, born April 6, 1891; Odella,1 orn Aug. 31, 1892; Elizabeth, born Nov. 19, 1894; Anthony, born Feb. 14, 1897, all of who~m are livlug. Her husband passed away as stated above on May 19, 1897. With care-full management they have succeeded very well since the loss of their 'husband and father, and they have a ni~ce shady hom e and the family is one of the highly esteemed and progressive families of the township. HESSLING, BERNHARD. Son of Henry and MNary Hessling, natives of Germany, and to whom were born six children: John, born April 10, 1856; lHarniet, born July 15, 1859; Mary, born Jan. 22, 1854; Henry, born April 25, 1861; William, born Nov. 23, 186-2, and Bernhard, the subject of this sketch was born Feb. 2, 1866. All but Harriet are alive. Harriet died at age of 33 and is buried in Catholic cemetery at Ruth. Married to Theressa Webaýr, daughter of Engelbert and Julia Weber, natives of Germany, and to whom were born seven children: Mary, died at age of 23 and buried at Ruth:, Christian, Rosa, Theressa, born Nov. 20, 18714; Valentine, born Oct. 5, 1877; Anna and John. They xvere married June 22, 1898, in Ruth. There are three children: Petrolella, born May 28, 1899; Charles, born July 26, 1900; Theressa, born 'Oct. 18, 1903. They were married Sept. 24, 1891, in Ruth. Son of Nicdholas and Christina Hetsch, natives of Germany, who emigrated to America in 1848 and settled in Wheeling, West Virginia, where his mother!died. His father and fzamily then moved to Cleveland, Ohio, where his father died. He was born Jan. 28, 1869. Married to Ellen Coyne, daughter of 'Thomas and Mary -Coyne. Her father was born in Oh~io and her mother in- Ireland, and to them were born thirteen children, of whi-ch family three of the children died. She was born Sept. 19, 1876, and they were married April 17, 1894, at-Rudh. There are seven children: Joseph, born Feb. 4, 1895, and died aged four months; Aiphonsus, born June 10, 1896; Marie, -born Dec. 20, 1897; Irene, born Jan. 8, 1900; Lyola, born Dec. 20, 1901, and a 'pair -of twins, Alfred, born June 6, 1904, and Ralph, born June 7, 1904. They 'have a comfortable and pleasant home and are one of the leading families of the township. HUNSANGER, AUGUST. They have a fine farm just south of the village -of Ruth and are considered one of the leading and influential families of the townshi-p. KAUFMANN, JOHN. Son of Michael and Barbarba Klaufmann, natives of Germany.. He was born De~c. 27, 1848. Married to Margarette Kolberg, daughter of John and Henrietta Koiberg,- who wa's born July 7, 1857. There were seven children: Bertha, born Dec. 21, 1876; Henrietta, born May 8, 1878; Frederick C., 'born Nov. 2~1, 1880; Michael, born Dec. 26, 1883; John, born Nov. 20, 1884; Fnieda E., 'born Jan. 7, 1889; Karl, who died when 6 weeks old. Frederick C. is married to Anna Loskowsky, daughter of Fred and Car-olina Los-- kowsky.. They were married Jan. 29, 1902, at Ruth, and there are two children: Albert, born Feb. 6, 1903, and Helena, born June 13, 1904. His wife died at age of 36 years and is buried in Lutheran cemetery near Ruth. The,' son Frederick and wife are living with his father. They have a comfortable 'home and the family is progressive and highly esteemed. KAUFMANN, FRED. 'Son of Michael and B~arbara Kaufmann, natives of Germany, who emigrated to iAmerica and settled in 'Canada where they lived until 1859, when they came to Sherman T-ownshi-p, Huron County, Mi-ch. To them were born isix -children Margarette,. born Aug. 7 1843; George, born Feb. 15., 1845; John, born Dec. 27, 1848; Mary; Fred, the subject of this sketch, was born Aug. 16, 1856, and Barbarba. Married Barbarba Kolberg, daughter of -John and Henrietta Koiberg, natives of Germany, -to whom were born seven children: Bertha, born May 20, 1853; Charles, born June 29, 1855; Maggie, born July 7, 1857; Barharba, born Feb. 7, 1861; Mary, b-orn March 28, 1867; Albert, 'born March 15, 1871; Fred, born Sept. 22, 1874. They were married Nov. 8, 1882, in Ruth. They have one of the finest homes in the township and thie family is -highly esteemed and one of the progressive families of the township. Mrs. K~aufmann's father was born Nov. 21, 1814, and died aged 62 years and is buried in Lutheran cemetery at Ruth. Her mother was born Aug. 3-0, 1834, and is residing wvith "her daughter. 'Son of Michael and Barbarba Kaufmann, natives of Germany, and to -Whom were born six children: Margaret, Barbarba; George, the subject of this sketch, was born Feb. 15, 1845; John, born in 1848; and Mary, who is deceased and buried in Ruth Lutheran cemetery, and Fred. children: Charles, the subject of this sketch, was born March 24, 1868; Frederich, Wiiheimina, Henry, Elizabeth, Mary; John, 'born July 13, 1888, and Clara. Married to Henrietta Schuelke, daughter of August and Louisa Schuelke, natives of Germany, and to whom were born four children: Henrietta, born April 16, 1882; Paulina, Frederick and Hannah. They were married Nov. 12, 1891, in Port Hope. There are six children: Walter, born Aug. 27, 1892; Selma, born Jan. 14, 18.94; Charles, born March 28, 1896; Minnie, born March 29, 1898; Sophia, born July 17, 1900; Ella, born Sept. 6, 1902. They have a nicely located and;pl~easant and comfortable 'home just south -of the Village of Ruth, and are one of the m-ost progresslye and leading families of the community. The Lutheran school is l-ocated on their place and the family are members of the Emanuel Lutheran,church, which is just across the road KOSAL, JOHN. -Son of Conrad and Anna Kosal, natives of Germany, to whom were born 'eleven children: Conischueida; John, the subject of this sketch, was born June 5, 1849; Valentine, 'George, Margaretha, Maria, Midhael, Joseph, Anthony, Elizabeth and Matthew. C-onischueida died aged about 30; Joseph died aged about 28 years; Elizabeth died aged 6 years. Joseph and Elizabeth are buried at 'Ruth, and 'Conischueida is buried at Harbor Beach. Marrie-d to Helena. Schwartz, daughter of Pelter and Anna Maria Schwartz, 'to whom wvere born five -children: Catherine, born March 2,1; Nicholas, born Dec. 5; Erasmus, born A~ug. 5, 1844; Thressa, born Jan. 6, 185,2; Helena, born Aug. 18, 1853. All 'but Thressa are alive, she having died at age of 48, and is buried in 'Catholic cemetery at Ruth. Married Oct. 27, 18174,. in Ruth. There are four children: Joseph, born April 17, 1877; George M., 'born Nov. 23, 1879; Valentine S., born ýNov. 5, 1881; Clara E., born Aug. 12, 1888, all but Joseph 'being alive. Joseph died aged 6 years 8 months and 18 days and was buried in Catholic cemetery at 'Ruth. They have a comfortable and pleasant home adjoining the Viilag-e of Ruth, and they are -one of the progressive and leading families -of Sher-man Township. KCRANZ, PETER. Son of John -and Catherine Kranz, natives of Germany, to whom were born five children, Catherine, born in 1848; Pete-r, the subject of this sketch, was born June 8, 1850; Henry, born in 1852; Joseph, 'born 'in 1855, and Helena, born March 29, 1858. Married to Thressa. Lachman, who was bo~rn May 27, 1852. They were marriedin March 1871 in Detroit. There are six children, Henry, born April 16, 1875; Peter, born June 26, 1876; Helena, born May 6, 1878; Teressia, born in Nov. 1879; Joseph, born Aug. 18, 1881; Maria,, born in 1883. His wife died Dec. 31, 1885, and was 'buried in Ruth Catholic cemetery. Married Feb. 171 1886, to Catherine Wuepping, daughter of John and Henrietta Wuepping. There are seven children, Louis, Barney, William, Agnes, Katy, Nora and Rosa. They have a fine home and the family is one of the highly esteemed and progressive families of the township and are very well to do, having a large and productive farm. MESSING, BERNARD. Son of Wilhelm and Christina Messing, natives of Germany, and to whom were 'born seven children, Elizabeth, who died in infancy; Mary, Wilhellm; Bernard., the subject of this sketch, was born May 6, 1853, in Cleveland, Ohio; Christina; Gertrude, who died aged 34 years, and 'Henry. Married to Apolone Krenz, daughter of John and Gustina Krenz, natives of Germany, and to whom were born five children, Mary, August, Rosa; John, who died aged 3 years; Apolona, born Jan. 28, 1865. They were married Sept. 14, 1892, and there is one child, Joseph, born Dec. 20, 1895. Mr. Messing was formerly married to 'Mary Assenmacher, who died aged 132 years and is buried in 'the Catholic cemetery near their farm. The result of his- first union was seven children, Annie, 'Gertrude, Mary, 'Peter, Wilhelm, Bernhard and John. The family have a pleasant and comnfortable home and are progressive and highly respected. MUNFORD, ROBERT. Merchant at White Rock. Is a son of William and Elizabeth (Armstrong) Munford, natives respectively of New Brunswick and Nova Scotia. The family settled in Maine, where his father died about 1839. His mother and family about ten years after the death of his father moved to Canada and in 1853 the family came to Port Sanilac, Mich., where his mot-her died about a year later. The subject of this sketch was the oldest son by the second marriage of his mother, whose first husband was James Erskine. He was born in Aroostook County, Maine, April 29, 1832. Not having attended school at all, Mr. Munford is a self-made man. He was a carpenter from 1855 to 1860., having picked up the trade., followed it for a living until 1860, when he came to White Rock and formed a partnership with Mr. Raymond and established a mercantile business under the name of Raymond & Munford, which continued for five years, when Mr. Munford bought out his partner and has since continued the business alone. Mr. Munford is -also engaged to some extent 'in the lumber business and has a fine farm of several hundred acres which is under fine cultivation.. He is a staunch Republican in, politics and'has held the office of town supervisor, towntreasurer, township clerk and justice of the peace. He was married in Port Sanilac Oct. 10, 1855, to Jane Wesley, daughter of Hiram and Ann Wesley. She was born in Toronto, Canada, Nov, 3, 1837. There were eight children, seven of whom are living, Annie, born Aug. 4, 1856; Frank, born Jan. 8, 1859; George., born April 17, 1861; Ruth, born May 3v q0,186 A7;- ClanrkeLi, bor-n-n-Jn. 14,18.70; HeTarbert, the county. PRIMSMER, JOSEPH. Son of Franz and Johannah Priemer, natives of Germany,. to whom were born 9ix children, of which the subject of this sketch was the fourth. He was born July 30, 1831, in Germany. Came to America at the age of 21. Was married in 1860 to Victoria Vogel, daughter of Joseph and Magdolina Vogel, natives of Germany. She was born in Germany Dec. 26, 1841. They were married in Sherman Township Oct. 23, 1860. 'There a~re fifteen children, Peter, born Aug. 1, 1862; Alois, born March 14, 1864; Nichol-as, born April 18, 1865; Rosa, 'born Sept. 27, 1869; Ida, born Aug. 1, 1870; Annie, born Nov. 14, 1871; Clara, born Aug. 3, 1873, and died at age of 19; Joseph, born Aug. 16, 1875; Emma, born Oct. 17, 1877; Bertha, born March 6, 1879; Maria V., born April 25, 1880; Alfred, born Nov. 25, 1881; Afra, born March 20, 1883, and died aged 8 years; Arthur, born Nov. 29, 1884; Lusita, born June 20, 1887. The family have a pleasant home and are progressive and one of the highly esteemed families of the township., RICHARD, AUGUST. 'Son of Joseph- and Anna Richard, natives of Germany, and t~o whom were born ten children, John, born July 1859; Mary; Fralik, born Oct. 4; Augusta, born Sept. 26; Julia, born Dec..31; Joseph, born Aug. 22, 1870; August, the subject of this sketch, was born Aug. 28, 1871; Frances, born Sept. 26, 1875; Annie, born May 1877; Charles. All are living except Charles and Mary. Married Agnes Wehner, daughter of Michael and Thressa Wehner, natives of Germany, and -to whom were born eight children, Thressa, died! at the. age of 25 and is buried at Harbor Beach; John, died at age of 25 and buried at Harbor Beach; Lena, Albert, Michael; Martha, died at age of 27 and buried at Harbor Beach; Agnes, born Ot6t. 26, 1879; Paul. They were married Oct. 3, 1899, in Ruth. There are two children, Frank, born Oct. 8, 1900, and Raymond, born Sept. 28, 1902. They' have a pleasant and comfortable home and are well known in the township. RO-GERS, WILLIAM. Son of Hugh and Mary Rogers, natives of Ireland, and to whom were born six children. Wiliam, the subject of this sketch, was born Oct. 8, 1846; Catherine, Maria, Rosa, Liza, John. Married to Catherine Stubbs, daughter of Edward -and Hannah Stubbs. Her father was born in Ireland and her mother in the East Indies. They were married Sept. 7, 1873. There were two daughters, Eliza, born Aug. 23, 1875, and Hannah May, born July 7, 1878, and died when abolit 15 months old and is burled in Canada. His wif e died -at the age of 58- years and is buried in Ruth cemetery., They- lived In Canada for about nine years after their marriage and then moved to Sherman Township,; where they still reside. Mr. Rogers is one of the leading and progressive citizens of Sherman Township.- His daughter, Eliza, -was united in marriage to James Clark, son of Thomas and Eliza Clark. He was born Sept. 27, 1874, and they were married June 28, 1899.. in Ruth, and 'there is one daughter, Helen Marie., born Feb. 3., 1902... SCHROEDER, JOSEPH. 'Son of Frank and' Lena' Schroeder, natives of Germany, anid to whom we're born nine children, Henry, born April 5, 1875; Joseph, the subject of this sketch, was born May 20, 1877; Helena, born June 23, 1881; -Mary, born June 21, 1833, Prank, born in 18.85, and died aged 5 years; Edward, born in. 1888; Anthony, born in 1890; Aselia, born in 1894; Rosa, born in 1896, and died aged i year. Married to Annie Weber, daughter of Engelbert and Julia Weber. They 'were married on June 51, 1902, in Ruth and there is one child, Romlio, born Sept. 16, 1903, and died 'three weeks later and buried at Ruth in the Catholic cemetery. H-is father was born July 17,- 1848, in Germany and his mother was born there too on March 29, 1858. His parents came to America in 1873 and they were married and lived in Detroit for five years when they moved to Sherman Township on section 4., where they still reside. The families have nice comfortable homes and are pro-, gressive and highly esteemed. SCHUMACHER, FRANK C. Son of Frank and Rose 'Schumacher. His father was born at Port Austin, Mich., and his mother at Cleveland, Ohio, and to them 'werbý born six children. Frank,_the subject of this sketch, was boi~n'-Sept. 24, 1881, in -Sherman Township, Huron' County, Mich.;, Niel, born April 7y 1886; Raymond, born March 6, 1888; Leona, born March 26, 1890; Peter., born July 26, 1892, and Valentine, born June 22, 1895. His mother had been married previous to her marriage to his father and the result of her first union was five children, Fred, born March 25,, 1874; Helen, born Sept. 4, 1876; Louisa, born May 9, 1878, and died aged 25 years; William, born July 21, 1879; John, horn Oct. 19, 1881. They were married in June, 1883, in the Catholic church, which is nearltheir 'farm in Sherman. Township. His father passed caway March 2Y 1903, and was buried in the Catholic church cemetery near their home. The subject of this sketch now owns and, operates the old homestead. The family have one of the nicest and most pleasant homes in the township and are progressive and highly respected. SIEMEN, HENRY. Married to Rosina Heistermann,. daughter of Theodore and Catherine ileisterm'ann, natives of Germany, to who~m weare STOESER, LOUIS. Son of Anthony and Louisa Stoeser. His father was 'born April 4Y 1826, in Baden, Germany, and'his mother was born in New York Jan. 1, 1834. His parents were married in 1850 in Wilmot, Ontario, Canada, and to them Were born ten children, Mary, who died at age of 22 years; Magdolina, born June 1, 1855; Carolina, born in Dec. 1858; Joseph, born June 30, 1860; Ludwina, born Feb. 19, 1862; Lewis, born July 23, 1863; Philip, born March 26, 1865; Barbara, born Oct. 20, 1867; Anthony, born Feb. 8, 1870; Louisa, born June 16, 1873.
