Son of David and Catherine Heck of Germany. His mother died in 1866 and wa~s buried in the public cemetery. His father was re-married in 1868 to Frances Maier, she dying in 1869, -and being buried in Durme~sheim, Baden, Germany. His father was married again to Abelonia Bader, in October, 1872. He has one half-brother, born June 5, 1869, and who died June 20, 1889, and one half-sister, Thressa, 'born Oct. 8,-~ 1864. The subject of this sketch was born Fe~b. 14,1 1864. He married Elizabeth Martens on Sept. 4, 1891. She was the daughter of Henry and Catherine Martens of Germany, and she was born May 5, 1875. They have had three sons and four daughters: Karl, born Sept. 25, 1892; Lorenz, 'born May 14, 1894; Edward, born April 28, 1896; Amanda, born Jan. 24, 1898; Emma, born June 24, 1899, died Aug. 8, 1899, and buried in Berne Lutheran cemetery; Olga born 'Sept. 9, 1900; Hulda, born April 9, 1902. June 16, 1846, all of whom were 'born in Germany, and all of whomr are deceased except Bernhard and Rophina. Married Kreszensia Volmer, daughter of Benj. and -Clara Velmer, natives of Germany, an~d to whom w-ere born five children: Bernihard, There ssa, Regina, Augustina, Kreszensia. She was h-orn'May 25, 1853, and all her brothers and sisters are alive except 'Bernhard and Regina. They were married April 13, 1874, in Germany, emigrated to America in 1880, and located on their present farm. Married Augusta Stange, daughter of Frederick and Louisa Stange of Sagina~w, Mich. Her father died in 1868, and was, buried in Saginaw. Her mother was again married to 'Christian Wintersteen-, of Saginaw, where she now resides. They were married Feb. 19, 1884, in 'Winsior, Huron County, Mich.
