APH Caseville Township. ANDERSON, -GEORGE J. Son of James and Margaret Anderson, natives *of Scotland. His father and m-other emigrated to Province of Quebec and 'located near Montreal. His father died there at age -of 78, and his mother also died' there at age of 70. The subject of'-this sketch was born in Scotland Dec. 28,.1851. He remained on the old h-omestead in Canada unitil he was 21, when he came to Caseville township, Huron County, Mich. In Feb., 1880, 'he married -Elizabeth Carty, daughter of Charles and 'Margaret Carty. Her- parents were natives ýof Ireland. 'She was born in Ireland Jan. 14, 1856, and when 16 came to Caseville, Mich. There are. four children,, James Burton, born-April 15, 1882; William H., born'-May 3,. 1885; Arthur W., born Oct. 17, 1889;' Norman George;,'born'Jan. 13, 1895.'ANDERSON, GEORGE. Son of Ge'orge and Jane Anderson, -natives. of Berwickshire, Scotland. His father died in Scotland in 1843 at age of - His mothier and family emigrated to Province of Quebec in 1852 and remained in -Canada until 1860, when they came to Huron 'County, Mich. The subject of this sketch was born in Scotland April 2,.1839. Married Jane. Br~own, daughter of Robert and Elizabeth Brown., natives -of 'Scotland. Her mother and.. father emigrated to Canada, where they died and are buried.. His wife was born in -the 'Province of Quebec, 'Canada, March 14, 1836.' 'There were five children, Isabella Jane, died at age of 23-she was b-orn Sept. 19, 1870, and' died 'July 22, 1893, and was wife -of David Mo-Clenaghan; Jame Amanda, b'orn May 18S, 1872, married Rev. Ro'bt. Brown -of Grand Haven,:Mich., pastor of Presbyterian church. They had three. children, one dying in infancy; living are Ethell Albert,:5 years old, and Wendell, 2 yeat's 'old'; Jessie, born Oct. 18,' 1874, married to Win. A. Brown, residing in Caseville Township. They are members of 'the Presbyterian church -of ýCaseville Township. ANDERSON,. JOHN. The subject 1of this sketch -was born In Pittsburg, Pa., April 13,' 1860. He grew to mianho~od in Ann Arbior, Mich. Came to Huron 'County at age of 18. He followed -occupation of lumbering and longshoreman in Rosnommon and Iosco C-ounties, Mich., for -six years, and finally se-ttled in Caseville' T.dwinhip 'in lth~e-spting of 1884, xvhere he has since resided. BAUR, BERTRAND H. Son of Emil and Berth'a Baur, natiyes of Germany. His father and mother emigrated to the Ufnited States in 1846 and settled, 'in 1867, at Ann- Arbor, Mich. His father was the founder of Oralabora colony. The subject of -this -sketch was born in Pittsburg on April 13, 1860.. Marriled to Mary Suss, daughter of Michael and Risina Suss, natives o'f Germany. There are sirchildren, five boys and one- girl: -Walter., born Feb. 7, 1887; William, born Feb. 7, 1887; Royal, born Nov. 2, 1888; Wanita, bor'n Nov. 20, 1892; Erniel. born April 22, 1895; Bertrand, biorn Oct. 19, 1900.1 BAUR, HENRY D. Son of (see biography of Simon Gregory. Father a native -of Maine and his, mother of Huron County, Mich. His father -came to Michigan in 1853, settling in Huron County, 'Mich., in 1855. The subject of' -this sketch 'was born 'in Huron County, Mich., Feb. 14, 1862.- He received his ed'ucatt-on and grew td manhood in this county, and finally located a farm -on section 25, Caseville, in 1-890. Married Jennie Stewart, daughter of Charles and Mary Stewart. There are two children: Lyman and Minor C. He was elected highway comimissioner in -the spring of 1904.' T;iIWINN, RICHARD. Son of Richard and Mary Ann, and was born near Arthur, Canada, February 9, 1856. His parents came -to Huron County in the fall -of 1860, and they loca~ted on section 12, where he grow to manhood 'and received his education. Married Florence M. Morse, daughter of Robert and Margaret Morse, her father being a native of Wales an'd her mother of England, but -of Scotch parentage. Her father and mother emigrated to near Hamilton, O'ntario'. She was 'born in Buffalo, N. Y., Sept. 16, 1.858. There are three children: Vega M., 'born Aug..3, 1884, and attended school at Caseville and finished -at the Dearborn high school near Detroit, Mich.;- Florence Margaret, born Nov. 19, 1889; Richard Harold, born July 4, 1891. HOPPE, CHARLES F. Son of William and Fredrika Hoppe, natives of Germany, and to whom were born three children: August, born March 24, 1844; Charles F., 'the 'subject of 'this sketch, was b~orn Aug. 3, 1849; Elvina, born Jan. 7, 1855, all of wh~om are living. Married Catherin'a Bechtel, daughter of William and 'Catherina Bechtel, natives of -Canada, and to whom were born 7 children: Hannah, born Sept. 30, 1849; Nancy, born Dec. 15, 1850; David, born Oct. 15, 1855; Elizabeth, b~orn May 6, 1858; Benjamin, born Jan. 8, 1859; Catherina, born March 15,.186.3; Aaron, 'b'orn April 24, 1867. They were married In Caseville Aug. 29, 1883. There are thirteen children: William, born July 22, 1884; 'Herman, born Fe'b. 1, 1886; Etta, born April 10, 1887; Henry, born July 18, 1888;Laura, born Feb. 16,' 1890; Alfred, b~orn. Oct. 7. 1891; Alice, b~orn May 23, 1893; Victor, born 'Fe~b. 25, 1895; Amanda, born May 25,.1897; Irene, born Sept. 27, 1898; Walter, born March 27, 1900;: Gladys, born Dec. 28, 1901; Edwin, born May 9', 1903, all of wh-om are living. They have a nice brick house, -a good barn and have a fine farm home. HECKERDORN, MOSES. Son of John and Mary Heckerdorn, natives of Waterloo County, Ontario., Canada, and to who were born ten children, Nancy, born Sept. 1, 1859; Veroncia, born March 1, 1861; Moses, ithe subject of this sketch, was born April 4, 1863; Barbara, born Apri'l 9, 186.5; Mary Ann, born May-4, 1867; Leah, born Aug. 28, 1868; Noah, born Oct. 22, 1871; Susannah, born June 26, 1875; Lydia Ann, born Sept. 3, 1877; Israel, born Dec. 17, 1880, all of whom are living. Married Amanda Otterbein, daughter of Henry and Lydia Coib Ottorbein, and to whom were born 6 children: Magdolina, July 25, 1863; Noah, July 2, 1865; Ellen, born Aug. 19, 1867; Levi, born'April 2, 1868; Amanda, born Feb. 4, 1871; Elizabeth, born May 27, 1872; all of whom are living. They were married March 25, 1891 in Canada where they lived for nine years and then moved to their present farm where they have since resided. There are five children, Arclista, born June 4, 1894, died when six years old and buried in Port Huron; Luella, born Sept. 18, 1896; Alta, born Nov. 10, 1898; Ian, born June 3, 1902; Seleda, born Oct. 2, 1903. They have a large frame house, good barn and a fine farm. LEIPPRANDT, CHARLES F. S~on 'of Frederick and Do~rothea Leipprandt, natives of Kingdom of Wurtemburg, Ge rmany, near city of Stuttgart. His parents died in Germany. The subject of this sketch was born May 5, 1836, in Germany, and when 17 came to Cincinnati, Ohio, where he remained for -two years. He went to St. Louis for a short time and then to Burlington, Iowa, and then 'to Sheboygan, Wis., where he 'manufactured -wagons, buggies and plows, remaining there three years. Then went as misionary to Hokah, Minn., where. ' he remained for 16 t'ears. He -then moved to Casevilla Township, Huron County, Mich., where he hias since resided. He was married at Sheboygan, Wis., to B. M. Dora Hoff schmidt. There' are seven children: John William, engaged in merchandising and flour milling at. Pigeon; Edwin, a partner of John William in the business at Pigeon; Charles W., engaged in beet culture; Lydia, married Rev. E. L. Moon, pastor' of M. B. church at Manchester, Mc. Violet, married Samuel Staedman; Theophile, living at home. They are members of the German M4. B. dhurch at Pigeon. MORSE, ROBERT. Son of John and Martha (White) Morse, -natives of Wales. Was born in Wales in for a company in Hamilton, Canada, and then engaged in business for himself. Continued in business for himself until he came to the United States in 1864, and after one year spent in Saginaw,. Mich., he settled on his farm in Caseville Township, where he -now lives. MURDOCH, JOHN J. Son of Hugh and Janet Murdoch, natives of Ayrshire, Scotland. They emigra'ted 'to Stark County, Ohio, in 1869, and in 1872 came to Caseville Township, Huron County, Mich., Where the father died at age of 80 years and mother at age of 58. The subject of 'this sketc'h was born in Scotland Sept. 29, 1847. He was educa~ted in common schools -of Scotland and followed mining. Ma rried Louisa Sollau, daughter -of Joihn and Anna Sollau, her father being a native of Germany and her mother of Germany. Her father and mother cam-e to America, settling in Stark County, Ohio. She was b'orn in Stark County, Ohio, Jan. 14, 1851. Her fa~ther died in Stark 'C-ounty, Ohio, at age of 72, and her mother at age of 51. Mr.. Murdoch was elected a member of the state legislature in 1899 and served two terms. Was towns-hip superviso for 3 or 4 years. There are eight children,.seven 'of Whom are living: Albert H., John, Stanley, Russell Alger, Preston, Jessie A., Mabel J., Grace E. Mrs. Murdoch is a member of the M. B. church. RICHMO-ND, JOHN H. Son -of John and Agnes Richmond, natives of Scotland. The subject of this sketch was born in Scotland. Emigrated to the United States in 1869 and settled in Hur~on County, Mich., remaining one year. He then returned to Scotland -and remained 5 years, and 'then came back to Caseville Township, Huro'n County, Mich., -Where he 'has since resided. Married in Scotlahd to Mary Brennan, -daughter of Michael and Agnes (Thompson) Brennan. Her father was a native of Ireland -and her mo'ther -of Scotland. '-She died at age of 40 years and is buried at Bay Port. He was again married in 1891 to Anna Wallace. There are eight -children: John, James, Agnes, Anna, Ellen, R~obert, William -and Isabella. RICHMOND,. Son of Cunningham and Emma Richmond. Father was native -of Scotland and mother of O ntario, Canada. The subject of this sketch was born Oct. 13, 1869. Married Mary Kehler, -W'ho was 'born in Clinton County, Mich. There are six "children: Norman H.,. Blanche M., deceased; Floyd R., Glen C., Clarence J., Lee W. He is living on his -'grandfather's farm in Caseville Township. SCHLUCHTBR, SIMPSO'N. Son of Jacob and Mary Schluchter. Father a native -of!Switzerland and mother of Prussia. His father emigrated 'to Wat'erlo~o County, Ontario., 'at ab-out age of 22 years. He married his wife., Mary Windolph, in Huron County, Ontario. His father died in -Caseville Township at -age:of 80, and his mother died in Marion C~ounty, Kansas, while on a. visit to some of her children. He was born in Hay Town-ship, Huron County, Ontario, 'on March 6, 1855. Attended school and grew to manhood there. Emigrated to Caseyulle Township Huron County, Mich., where he still lives. Married Elizabeth Haug, daughter -of John and Mary Hang. There are 'three children: Wallace and Walter, twins born March 1888, and Alvin Garnet. SHELTON, CHARLES A. Son of Jacob and Amelia Shelton. His father was a native -of Kentucky, and his mother of New York. His' father emigrated from Kentucky to near Bay City, Mich., on Saginaw River, at age of 12 years. He came with his sister, who married a lumberman by name James McCormick. Father died at Caseville, aged 68, and his mother still living. He was born in Huron County on Sept. 20, 1862. Married Ellen Oben, who died aged 29. He was married then to Mary Ann Armitage. There are six children, five alive: William, deceased; Vernon, 18; 'Clarence J., 11;,Catherine M., 8; Charles.W., 5; and Robert G., 2 years of age. STEADMAN, ALBERT 'B. Son of William and Mary ýSteadman. Father a native 'of Clinton Township, Lampton County, Ontario, and his mother -of Sanilac County, Mich., near Lexington. His father is 61 and his mother 57. He was born near Wyoming village, Lampton, County, Ontario, on Jan. 15, 1877. When he was 13 he came with his parents to Huron County, Mich. Married Mary Jane R~oomey, daughter of Robert and Isabel Roaoney. She was 'born in Lincoln Township, Huron County, Mich., Aug. 19,.1885. STEADMA1N, 'SAMUEL. His parents were h-oth natives of Lampton County, Ontari~o. He was b~orn in the village of Wyoming, Lamp-ton C-ounty, Ontario, Dec. 8, 1879, 'and at an early -age moved with his parents -to Huron C-ounty, Mich. Has f oll owed in Caseville Township; Elizabeth, married James White and lives in Ward County, North Dak~ota; Mary, living in Caseville; John B., located at Giddings, Texas; 'Charle~s R., living at h~ome; Edith A., living at home; Laura M., at Traverse City. His wife passed away ýon the 6th of Feb., 1901. He Is a member of the M. B. church. STI.AEGMAN, HENRY. Son of John and Dora Stiegman, natives of Roes-tock, Germany. His father came to Rochester, N. Y., in 1852, and to Huron County in 1864. His father is still alive at the age of 83 years. M-other died at age of 55. The subject of this sketch was born in Roestock, Germany, in '.1849, on the 20th of September. Married to Charl~otte Rebitzky. Her parents were natives of Germany, and lived and died ithere and are buried there. She was also 'born in Germany. His wife died in 1894. There are five children: Frank C., 30; Henry G., 28; John J., 26; Anna C., aged 23, and married to L. W. Wilfong; William., 21. STORTZ, JOHN. Son of (see biography of his brother, Henry Stortz, in Winsor Township) and was born on June 15, 1859. Married Mary Yackle, daughter -of George and Chri-stina Yackle (see Yackle biography). They were married Feb. 17, 1887, in Pigeon, Mich. There were four children in the family: Andrew, born Feb. 2,' 1888; William, born April 23, 1894; Lena, born Oct. 21, 1889; Alice, born Jan. 6, 1892, all!of whom' are living. They have 'two good frame 'houses and good barns and two fine farms. STREITER, JOHN C. Son of John and Louisa Streiter,natives of Germany,. and to wh~om were b~orn nine children: George, born May 8, 1839; Catherine, 'born April 19, 1843; Rosina, born Nov. 14.. 1845; Carl, born Feb. 22, 1848; John, the 'subject -of this ' sketch, was 'born March 6, 1851; Christina, 'born June 1, 1853; Anna, born Dec. 23, 1855; Louisa, born Dec. 22., 1857, and Frederick C., born April 9, 1861. Married Maria Baur, daughter. 'of David 'and Uhilipina ]Jaur, natives of Germany, and to whom were born 10 children: Matthew, born Oct. 4, 1854; Maria, born April 5, 1856; Sim-on, born Jan. 15, 1858; George, born July 13, 1859; Gottleib, born Dec. 28, 1860; Johannah, born 'Sept. 6', 1862; Henry D., born June 15, 1864; 'Carolina., born Jan. 31, 1867; August, born Oct. 16,' 1869; Catherine, b-orn Nov. 12, 1871, all of whom are liv ''ing. They were married April 29, 1876, in Sebewaing, Mich. Son of George and 'Mar'garet Wilfong. Father native of Pennsylvania and mother of, Nexv York, near Buffalo. His father emigrated from Pennsylvania to near Wilmot, Wa~ter.-_ lou C-ounty, Ontari~o. Later he moved to Caseville Township, Huron County, Mich. The subjeto this sketch was born in New Hamberg, Wa'terleoo County, Ontario, March 26, 1849. He'grew to man-- h-ood and received his education in -Caseville Township. Married -to Mary Murdoch, daughter of" Hugh and Janet Murdoch, na~tives -of Ayrshire,, Scotland. There were 9 children, 7 'of whom..are still living. Verona Township. AMOS, ROBERT H. The son of Thomas and Jaqne Am os. Father was a native of -Scotland and mothe~r was a native of On-ta-rto, Canada. He- was born on a farm near 'Seaforth, Ontari~o, Canada, March' 5, 1867, and stayed on -the old homestead until 'he was 1 8 years old. He then 'came to Huron C-ounty, Mich., and located in Colfax Township in the 'fall of 1885, and later moved to Verona TownshiP`, where 'he has 'since resided. Married Ann Jane Fhilp, daughter 'of John and Hann~ah Phil 'p. They' have three children, Irene, who is 5; Isabella, who is 3 years of age, and Thos. J., who is 1 year old. ANDREWS, GEORGE N. Bdrn Sept. 25, 1860, in 'Sumcoe Coun-ty, Onta-ri~o. His father was John Andrews, born in Hull,- England, and his mother was Hannah Farley (Andrews), born in Rhoda Tow nship, Ontario. Mr. Andrews resided in Canada up until -he was 14 years of age. He came to Bad Axe, Huron County, Mich., in the spring 'of 1882, 'and settled -on his present farm in the spring of 1888. Was married to Ida E. Ferris in 1886. Her father, Silas Ferris, was born in New York, and her moth Canada, Oct. 13, 1854. Grew to manhood and received his early education in his native county ill Canada. Came to Verona Township, Huron County, in the fall of 1894 and settled his present farm. Married Mis-s Mary Abbot March.28, 1872. She was the daughter of Joseph and Anna Abbot. There are three. children in the family: Sarah Ann, who is 20 years old; Jennie, who is. 9 years olId, and William, who is 4 years old. Their home is pleasantly 'located two miles s~outheasterly from Bad Axe. BRADEN, JOHN 0. Son of R. M. Braden, born in New York state in 1819, and Catherine Shay, who was born in Ireland In 1837. The subject -of this sketch was born in Verona Township,. Huron County, Mich., Aug. 2, 1861, and received his education in the common schools here and lived with his father's family. He was an empi-oy of the Pere Marquette railroad for six years. Married Minnie Mitchell in 1892., in Brown City, Who was the daughter 'of John G. Mitchell, 'a native of New Brunswick, and L-iza Kern, also a native of Canada. There is one -child, Charles, 8 years old, Who attends school. BURNS, JOHN. Son of John and Mary Edgar Burns, who were natives of West Mate, Ireland. He was b-orn in 1851. Emigrated to the United States in the fall of 1871 and settled on his present farm in the spring of 1873. Married Mary O'Rourke, wh~o was born in Ireland in 1871.. Has followed farming and lumbering. There are eight children in the 'family: William J., who is 31; Mary J., 28; Rose Ann, 27; John J., 26; Edward' M., 23; Robert J., 18; Peter C., 16; Benjamin M., 12 years of age. CAPLING., GEORGE.
