102 B I OGRA P.HIES. Port Austin Township HALL, JAMES. Son of Alexander and Catherine (McCauley) Hill, natives of Antrim County, Ireland. Emigrated to Ontario, Canada, in 1346, and remnaine~d there until 18 61; then moved to -Ohio and the 'n to Sanilac County, Mich., -where mother now resides at age of 82. His father died at age of 70 and is buried in Port Austin. The subject of this sketch was born in Northumberland County, Ontario, Canada, Feb. 24, 1852. Married Bridget McCauley, daughter of Thomas and Catherine (Cain) McCauley. There are two children, Catherine and Mary Amelia.. PUNTER, -DAVID C. Son of William, and -Elizabeth (Manson) Hunter. His father was. a, native of England and his mother of Scotland.. His- mother is residing in Grindstone City and his father died in 1901 and is buried in New River cemetery.. The subject of this sketch was born in.,Huron County, *Canada, N\ov. 1, 1864. Married Agnes Redmond, daughter of John and Ra~chel (McGratin) RedMond. There are six children: Lorena, Anna May, John, Vera, Lula and Iva. HUNTER, JAMES. Son of William and Elizabeth (Ma nson) Hunter. His father was a native of England, and his mother of Scotland. Mother living at age of 82 in Grindstone City and father died at age of 8,2 and, is buried in New River ceme,tery. Born in Stanley Towns-hip, Huron County, Ontario, Canada, Dec. 2, 1859. Married May Temple, daughter of Richard. and May Temple. There are two children, Orpha Elizabeth and Dorothy May. IGNASH, PETER. Son of Joseph and Agnes. Ignash. Married -to Kate.Usvellt, daug'hter of -Peacovoc and Mary Usvellt. There are twelve children in the, family. He has a fine farm of 130 acres in Port Austin Township.. Bad Axe Township' SHINE, THOMAS., Son of John and Catherine Shine, natives of Ireland, who emigrated to Canada in 1848, and who were married in Canada in 1854, and later came to'Huron County, Mich., and settled in Hume Township in 1863, being one of the early settlers of that township. His father died in 1903 and his mother still resides on the old homestead in Hume Township. The subject of this sketch was born in Canada in 1858 and came to this county with his parents. He married Annie McAllister in 1887. There are six children, Grace, Elizabeth, John, Thomas, Mary E and Robert William. Mr. Shine is engaged in the contracting. business. Rubicon Township BALL, OLIVER. Son of Martin and Lucinda (Anderson) Ball. Born in Lexington, Mich., Jan. 27, 1868. ' His father and mother are both deceased and buried *in this township. Married 'to Jane'Martin;, daughter of Joe Martin of Verona Township. They were married in April- 1894. There were three children, two of whom are living, Harvey Oliver and Charles Jan. 2-0, 1856. Received his education in England and emigrated to Canada. in 1871, and came to Michigan in April, 1874, settling at Ypsilanti, where he remained f our and a half years, then came to Huron County. Married in 1885 to Maggie Currie, *daughter. of Neil and Christena Currie. 'They have *four boys.-living, Wilfred L., Neil M., Arthur E., Erwin L.,. and one child, Willard E., is deceased and' buried at Harbor 'Beach.* COULSTON, JOHN. Son of. Jonathan and. Sarah *.(Clary)- Coniston, natives of England. Born in Lincolnshire, England, March 23, 1838. Received his educgtion in England. and emigrated to Canada in 1871, where he remained.'f or two and. a half *years. Then. came to Detroit and from there to **Huron County, Mich. Married in England to Harriet Thraves, daughter of Richard Thraves. There were nine children, of whom three are living, Ar*thur, who lives in this- township; 'Sarah, now Mrs. Hayward of Pt. Hope; Charles. Henry, now in,Idaho. DAHLKIE, AUGUST.. Son of Charles and Mary Dahlkie, natives of Germany. Born in P russia, Germany, March 4, 1854. Came to this country when he was 26 years old. Married to Augusta Wirt. There are five children. GOULD, WILLIAM. Born In England Sept. 3, 1844, in.Somersetshire. Lived in Kent. awhile. Emigrated to this country in 18.70. Married, In England to Mary Pringle. There are eight children living, Louisa J., born in England; John A. of 'Verona Township.; Edith, now Mrs. Copeland; James J.,of Verona Township; Ellen Mary, living in Bir,mingham; Bella, now Mrs. Mitchell of Oakland County; Jesse M. of Detroit; Elsie M., now Mrs. Hawkins. His wife died and is buried in Oakland County. He was married in 1897 to Mary Angle. There are no children the result of the second union. HEINEMAN, AUGUST. Son of Johannes and Christine (Kramer) Heinemari, natives of Germany. Born in Volismarsen, near Hesse Cassel, Germany, on Nov. 5, 1844. Received his education there and came to -this country when 17 years old, settling at Port Hope, Mich., where he has since resided. Married Johanna Holstein, daughter of Ferdinand.and Ma~cis (Dombrofekie) Holstein, natives of Germany. There are seven boys and five girls the re~ult of this union, all of whom are living. Has 'held several impo 'rtant township offices, and served Huron County in the State Legislature in the years 1889 and 1890. "Is. now secretary of the German Mutual Fire Protective Association'of Port Hope. Has been on Port Hope school board eight years. HERMAN, FRED. Son of Fred and Katie (Wuertz) Herman. Born In Germany; near,'Posen, Nov. 7, 1847; Came to this country when 25 years old. Married to Hulda Viert., The result.of this union was nine childre:n. '- His wife died -in 1887. Married in 1 8 91 to.;Matilda Lawitzke. There are no' childiren the result ýof the-second union. HEINEMAN, -AUGUST;' Son of John and Christine (Kramer) Heineman, natives of Germany. Born in Hesse Cassel, Germany, Nov. 5, 1848. Came to -.this country when 17 years of age. Has been highway commissioner, justice of the peace and representative in the State Legislature in 1889 and 1890. His, family of 'children comprises seven boys and ''five girls, all of Whom are living. He is secretary of the,, German Mutual Fire Protective -Association of Port Hope. HOPSON,, ALBERT J. Son of John and Susan Hopson. Born in Detroit, Mich., Oct. 19, 1853. -Came to Huron County in 1862 with his parents. Married in 189 '4 to Adeilne Hodgeson, -daughter of Martin Hodgeson of Pontiac, Mich. There are three children, Lucille, Edith Estella, Curtis Lancelot. He is a member of the school board and has a finea farm of 370 acres. KRUGER, AUGUST. His parents were both natives of Germany. He was born in Germany in.1861. Son of Edward and Marie Kruger. - Came to this country when he was 11 years old. Received his education partly in Germany and partly in Macomb County, Mich. Married July 5, 1891, to Emelia Beamkie. There are four children, Paul, Annie, Oscar and Albert. Is at present a member of the school board. PECKINS, ED. C. Son of Edward and Ella (Scanlon) Peckins.. His father was a native of the United States.and his mother of Ireland. Born in Rock Falls, Huron County, Mich., in 1852. Married in '.1877 to Eugenia Raymond. There are three chil,dren, Mary Luella, Cora. Almira, Celia Estella. His wife died in 1888. He was again married to Sarah 'Belden. There are no children the result of the second union. Has been justice of the peace 12 years, school officer 25 years and is now on the township board. PEOTER, HERMAN. Son of Charles and Mary Peoter, natives of Germany. Born in Germany in 1860. 'Came to this country when 15' years old. Married in the fall of 1891 to Mary Senstock. There were three children, two of whom are living, Otto, Willie and Ella, who is deceased. PETERSON, FRED. Son of John and Fannie Marion.(Howard) Peterson. Born in Rubicon Township, Huron, County, Mich. His father was. a native of Canada and his mother a native of Ireland. Married July 21, 18'91, to Ada Bigger, daughter of Charles Bigger of Sanilac County, Mich. There are five 'children, Julia Adell, Darius Harold, Ella. Lucile, Orval Everett, Hazen S. Mr. Peterson has been a.'school officer for a number of years. PETERSON, FREMONT. Son of John' and Fannie.Marion (Howard) Peterson. Born in Canada Aug. 71 1861. Born in Germany Feb. 24, 1851. Was educated in Germany. Came to this country when 21 years of age. Married in 1894 to Albertina Tose'man. They have one child, Anna. Mr. Plietz has 'been road commissioner for 8 years and school officer for 2 years. RAMSEY,. THOMAS A. Son 'of Albert and Elizabeth (Fielding) Ramsey, natives of Canada. Was born in Wellington County, Ontario, Canada. Received his education in Canada. Came to, this county in '1880. Married in 1881 to Loretta Brown, daughter of W. W. Brown of Sand Beach. Township. There Sare three children, Burley Allen, Warner and Viola. Mr. Ramsey is a cattle buyer and has a fine farm 'of 5 30 acres. SCHMUCKER, JOHN. Son of Joseph and Johannah (Traub) S 'chmucker, natives of Germany. Born in Russia Sept. 26, 1855. Came to -this county when 17 years of age and settled in Illinois, remailning for. 5 years, coming to this county in 1879. Mar,ried to Wilhelmina Gerstensch lager. There are five children, John B., Philip T., Albert F., Mary M., Alvina W. I SCHMUCKER, JOSEPH. Son of Joseph and Johannah (Traub) Schmucker. Born in Russia Nov. 15, 1842. Came to this country when 31 years old and went to Southern Illinois, where he remained 5 years, after which he came to Huron County. Married while in Illinois to Theressa Rheinhold. ' There arc five boys and four girls in the family of children. SCHUBRING, FRED. Son of Ferdinand and Ernestina '(Janka) Schubring, natives of Germany.' Born in Prussia, Germany, in 1857. Married in 1881 to Augusta ' Schacht. There are ten children, Ida, Bertha, - Martha, Theodore, Arthur, Clara, William, Alfred Lydia and Adolph. Mr. Schubring has been school moderator for 3 years. SELTZ, ADOLPH. Son of August and Matilda Seltz, natives of Germany. He was born on the farm.where he now lives, in Rubicon Township, H-uron County, Mich., on Aug. 20, 1873. His father died in 1902 and his mother resides with him on the old homestead. He is a single man and has a fline farm of 140 acres. THOMS., GUSTAV. Son 'of Daniel Thoms. Born in 'Posen, Germany, in 1-849. Came to this country in '.1871. Married in 1876 to Christina Penter. The result of. this union was a family of two boys and two girls. His wife died,and he was married a second time to Minnie Nieman. The result of the second union was 'two boys and two girls. Fair Haven Township ADAMS, ANTON. Son of John and Elizabeth Adams, natives of Prussia, and who emigrated, to this country in 1853 and settled in Detroit, where they were married, and in 1857 they came to Sebewaing. The subject of this sketch was born in Sebewaing Township in 1861. He married Dora Hilliker in 1888. There is one child, Louise, born 1889..' They have a comfortable and pleasant home. ARTHUR, DANIEL. Son of Samuel and Sarah Arthur. His father was a native of Pennsylvania and his mother of Ohio. His parents were married in Illinois in 1872 and moved out into Atchison County, Kansas, where they still reside. The subject. of this sketch was born in Illinois in 1863 and removed with his parents 'to Kansas, where he grew to manhood. In 1891 he was married to Sarah Derstine of Osborn County, Kansas. They came to Michigan in 1903. There are two children, Eva, born 189-2, and Bertha, born in 1894. 'They haye a very comfortable and pleasant home. BROWN, G. W. Son of James C. and Lovisa Rachel Brown, natives of Erie County, New York, where they were also married. They moved then 'to Wisconsin, where they died. The subject of this sketch was born in Wisconsin in 1857. In 1874 he-,came to Michigan and settled in Livingston County, and in 1880 he came to Huron County. He married Anna Elizabeth Kempf in 1893. He settled his present farm in 1899. There are two children, Roland F., born in 1895; Robert A., born:.in 1897. They have a comfortable and pleasant home. BUESCHLEN, H. S. Son of Christ and Mary Bueschlen. His father was born in' Switzerland and his mother in Canada. His parents were married in Canada and in 1881 came to Michigan and settled in Win.sor Township, Huron County, and resided there until 1901, when they moved to Sebewalug village'. The subject of this sketch was born in Ontario and came with his parents 'to this county.;, In 1897 he married Lena Kuhn. There is one child, Omer, born in 1902. They have a very comfortable and beautiful home and a fine farm of 200 acres. GETTEL, FRED. 'Son of John and Catherina. Gettel, natives of Germany, and who came to Sebewaing Township from Germany, in 1849, and -where the mother still resides. The subject of this 'sketch was born in Sebewaing Township in 1859. He was married in 1885 to Miss Finkbeiner. There are three children, Lillie M., born in 1888; Edward J., born in 1889; Laura G., born in 1897. They have.a nice pleasant farm home and Mr. Gettel is dealer in all kinds' of fa rm, implements and is engaged in raising thoroughbred stock'. HAAG, CHRIST. Sont of Adam and 'Margaretha Haag, natives of Germany, who came to this country in 1852 and were married in Detroit. They came'to Fair Haven Township, Huron County, Mich., where 'they res 'ided after their marriage. The subject of this sketch was born in Sebewaing Township, Huron County, Mich., in 1858. He married Maggie Welser of Marinae City, in 1882. There are ten children, Mary B., born in 1883; Henry F.,' born in 1885; Emma E., born in 1887; Augusta H., 'born KAIN, MIKE. Son of Louis and Elizabeth Kain, na'tives of Germany, who came to this country and settled at Buffalo, N. Y., and who came to Huron C'ounty in 1870. The subject of this sketch. was born in Buffalo, N. Y., and came to Huron County with his parents. He- married Augusta Kalies in 1881. There are.eleven children, Alfred, born in 1882; 'John, born in 1884; Emma, born in 1886; Bertha, born in 1888; William, born in 1890; Lora, born in 1892; Hugo, born in 1894; Louise, born in 1896; Matilda, born in 1898; Herbert, born in 1900; Ferdinand, born in' 1903. They have a cornfortable and pleasant home. KASSERMAN, MARTIN. Son of Jacob and Gertrude Kasserman. His father was born in Switzerland and his mother in Waterloo County, Ontario, Can,ada. His parents were married in Canada and in 1.878 came to Michigan, settling in. Oliver. Township, Huron County, Mich., where they resided until their death. The subject of this sketch was born in Canada in 18 68 and came with his parents to this country. He was' married to flosina Uhli184 There is one child, Arnold 'Frank,. born in 1900. They have a pleasant and comfortable home. KEERLER, WILLIAM. Sqn of 'Fred and CarolinaKeebler, natives' of ýGermany, and who emigrated to this country in 1856 and settled at Cee'n. Ohio, and from which place Cle atr.mvedand, -Clinton County, Mich.,.where 'his mother died.' His father moved to Casevilie, Huron' County, Mich. The subject of this sketch was: born in Clinton County, Mich., in 1865, and came to Huron County w~th his parents. In 189*2 he' married 'Emma Goepf ert. There are four children, Bessie, born '1893; Ralph, born 1895, and died in 1898; - Arthur, born 1897 and died 1898; Howard, born '1'901. Having lost all' the y:'had,. they moved to Oliver Township, where they clea~red. 190 acres,_ but the school and church facilities' not suiting, they "moved to Kilmanagh, where'they planted 6.' acres 'of vineyard and 10:acr'es of Orchard, which i's calle~d the Volz Kilmanagh Vineyard.
