Middle English Compendium

On March 13, 2019, we began redirecting all search traffic for the Middle English Dictionary and HyperBibliography to the new site. Because of a misunderstanding, we unfortunately did this without announcing the change first. We apologize for the confusion this must have caused.

The page at https://quod.lib.umich.edu/m/middle-english-dictionary replaces this one and contains links to the pieces of the Middle English Compendium.

o The Middle English Dictionary is now found at https://quod.lib.umich.edu/m/middle-english-dictionary/dictionary
o Searching quotations within the MED can be found at https://quod.lib.umich.edu/m/middle-english-dictionary/quotations
o The re-named Bibliography is at https://quod.lib.umich.edu/m/middle-english-dictionary/bibliography
o The greatly enlarged Corpus of Middle English is still found at https://quod.lib.umich.edu/c/cme/
Please let us know about searches you cannot accomplish with the current interface via the Contact Us link here and on the upper right of every page of the new site. We may be able to suggest workarounds or fix bugs; we are also planning future work on the site and would like to know what improvements to search are wanted.

The creation of the Compendium in 1997-1998 was funded in part by a grant from the National Endowment for the Humanities. The Endowment generously renewed its support in 2016, offering a second grant to help fund revision and expansion of the Compendium during the period 2016-2018.
