To Edwin M. Stanton
If it would be no detriment to the service I would be glad for General Grierson to remain here two days longer. A. LINCOLN.
February 13th, 1865.
Record of Services Rendered the Government by B. H. Grierson in 1865 (privately printed), p. 185. According to the source, this note was on a small card on the back of which Stanton wrote: ``General [Benjamin H.] Grierson has permission to remain at Washington two days.'' See Lincoln to military officers commanding in West Tennessee, supra (VIII, 294-96).
