Wallace, Washington, April 12, 1865: ``I would respectfully recomend James H Alvord for the office of Marshall of the Territory of Idaho made vacant by the removal of Dolphus S Payne.''
Alvord was nominated by President Johnson on December 20, 1865, and was confirmed by the Senate on January 18, 1866.
