On March 31, Charles Whitlock and Ezra Baker and associates petitioned Lincoln for return of goods seized by military authorities, release from arrest, and trial before a civil tribunal (Private and Official Correspondence of Benjamin F. Butler, V, 589 ff.). No reply from Gordon has been found.
