[3]   Grant's telegram has not been found. As printed in the Official Records, Lincoln's telegram reads ``at 3:30 this evening'' instead of ``at 3/20 this morning,'' and an explanatory note opines that it was ``probably written before midnight of April 3.'' In view of Lincoln's autograph telegram, the Official Records must

be in error as to the time. Supporting the correctness of Lincoln's autograph telegram is the fact that Sheridan's telegram to Grant, to which Grant referred, was sent at 4:10 P.M on April 3 (OR, I, XLVI, III, 529).
