General Weitzel's reply was received at 8:20 P.M.: ``I have only heard that Fitz Hugh Lees cavalry passed through Richmond yesterday & at 11.25 this morning it was seen passing Port Walthal Junction towards Petersburg at a fast gait No movements have been observed other than the above. I expect deserters every moment & as soon as I hear anything new I will telegraph you'' (DLC-RTL).

A second telegram from Weitzel was received at 12:20 A.M. on March 30: ``A Lieutenant & 2 men have just come in from the Enemy they report no change on this front up to the time they left'' (ibid.).
